A meme from [livejournal.com profile] lisekit

Look at my user pics. And then kindly tell me:

1. Which icon do you associate with me?
2. Which icon is your favourite?
3. Which icon is your least favourite?
4. Which icon would you like to see me use more often?
5. One that you don't understand?
6. Can you make two of my icons converse?
7. When you comment, use your favourite icon and tell me why you love it.

You can describe icons by their keywords or, if you want to be really flash, you can link to them!

7. I'm not sure I have one particular favourite, but I do like this one a lot because I was having such a nice day when it was taken.

It's Mark Boxer's cartoon of Kenneth Widmerpool, the anti-hero of A Dance to the Music of Time. I use it for snark, pedantry and things military.

"It was Widmerpool!" I lost count of the number of times that line came up, but it made me laugh every time. ^_^

1. Image For the feet, clearly

2. Sorry to be following the pack... Image Combination of theoretical physics/cosmology and Homer Simpson - perfect!

3. Image Hardly happy and upbeat, is it?

4. Image

5. Image For me Zoot is a jazz saxophonist... Perhaps I should ask Frankie!

7. The view from my window, sometimes.

2. Image There seems to be a bit of a trend developing here...

3. Image I love the icon per se, just a shame the picture quality isn't better.

4. Image Because you can never have too many food posts!!!

5. Image It's another one of those physics things again, isn't it?

6. Image Image

Because it quite nicely sums up my feelings for Bertie Ahern & co.

5. Is a picture of the reverend Thomas Bayes over a statement of his famous theorem concerning prior probabilities. I was an 'early adopter' of the Bayesian approach to probability and statistics which didn't really become popular until the 1980s/90s despite Bayes having done the spadework 200 years earlier. I wrote my undergrad long essay (actually my only undergrad essay) on the ontology of probability.

This is a very educational journal, you've just made me find out how to link to your userpics. Is this what people mean by "[no] hotlinking"?

1. Image I'm afraid I'm a bit literal.

2. Image There are lots that I like; I considered the Seventh Seal, and the Minotaur, and various cat pics. But I picked this one because it's Durham.

3. Image I don't actually dislike it, but I had to pick one, and I felt I had to strike a counterblow against the consensus.

4. Image It's just another of my favourites.

5. Image My guess is the book cover of a French play/opera about Theseus?

6. Image Image No one's done that one yet? Oh well, I said I was literal.

7. Image I don't think I've got a single favourite, but this is one that I like and no one has ever commented on, so I'll push it into the limelight. I remember being terribly pleased with it when I first made it, because the artwork satisfied me, and I like the poem quoted, of course.

1. The default icon, just because I'ev seen it the most.
2. The cat (Red Dwarf) one!
3. Point, I guess... I don't have a strong negative feeling about any of them.
4. Toe, because I'm morbid.
5. Paths?
6. Thatcher and Fart, heheee.
7. I find it very hard to pick a favourite icon... That's why I have 51! Helo is my current favourite though, just because he is so obnoxious.

5. is a 2D representation (one spatial plus ct) of possible and impossible paths in spacetime. It should of course be 4D but that's a bit hard to draw.

This is partially down to you, because you once said you associated this one with me. Pat of it is that Ann Elliott is just about the only Austen character with whom I can identify. Part of it was that it was a gift from [livejournal.com profile] ancarett. And part of it is that it just makes me feel good these days. I like the queens and the Augusta, but at the moment, she's my fave.

5. Shoiws possible and impossible paths in a simplified 2D space time with one spatial dimension plus ct.
