So the British government in the person of former CPGB thug John Reid is reintroducing prison hulks. Transportation to the colonies can't be far behind.
As the general consensus in the UK, at least, seems to be that almost all of our former "transportation" colonies are now much better places to live than the mother country, I'm not sure that would be much of a deterant, :). I can imagine a fair sector of the population ready to steal a policemans helmet if it meant free entry into Oz, Canada, or NZ.
I didn't realise that John Reid was once in CPGB, it does make sense (once I re-read 'CEGB' correctly).
He was rather notorious. He was the enforcer for the CPGB when they were making a rather lucrative thing out of controlling the Student Union at Stirling.
Am I the only one who finds it amusing that she also suggested using former holiday camps as prison sites? I can't quite quash the mental images of a new series of Hi-de-Hi! based on that premise...
