Given how much time I've spent climbing and mountaineering, it's a bit surprising how few photographs of me doing so appear to exist. I went digging through piles of ancient stuff and came up with precisely two.

Cornwall - Sennen?, early 1980s

SW buttress of Chinaman's Peak, Kananaskis, c. 1989 (pity about the contrast but climbing on light coloured rock, in bright sunlight, at altitude will do that!)

The crevasse one is scary.

Actually I've always been a good deal more comfortable with cracks and chimneys than with more open face climbs.

I haven't climbed seriously for a few years now so I'm not really up on the latest gear.

Oh, amazing, amazing. What a rush that must be. I have only climbed a few times. The most notable wasn't even a rock-face, it was a tree, the trunk was wide-wide-wide and I couldn't be bothered to really climb in an orderly sophisticated fashion. I just wrapped my arms and legs around it as far as they'd reach and inched my way up. LOL!

It really can be a rush and on at least two levels. There's the sheer endorphin thing of making intricate or difficult moves in an environment that most people will never experience which is the one people talk about. There's also the "Good God, I almost died there" rush. People tend not to talk about that.

Mmm. I want me some rush. Been a while.
OMG. That's it. That's what's missing. That's the source of l'ennui!!!

I've been thinking about that too. The rugby season is coming to an end and I'm realising that that is what I get a rush from at the moment. It's going to be a long winter if I can't find something to fill the gap.

Yes, I need that too. I need to figure out how. Rafting maybe, in the Colca canyon!
