Creepy crawlies

As suspected, Jane has ear mites, no doubt acquired from the last batch of kittens. We took her into the vet today and got to look at the creepy crawlies under the microscope. We now have Revolution for all three cats which should clear things up over the next couple of weeks. Jane was a very good kitten at the vet despite the presence of a slobbery Irish setter and another dog the size of a hippo.

Poor Jane! I hope she's better soon. I went to the doctor too, and hope I was as brave as she was.

There was the weirdest thing on NPR a few years ago... this vet researcher guy put ear mites in his own ears (ewwwww) and they played on the radio the scritching sounds they made in the ear. Luckily they die in human ear canals (this idiot researcher gave them to himself like three times). I was totally squicked and it also made me *really* meticulous about our cat Circe who was susceptible to them. Persephone never got them but Circe got them a couple times a year. I guess some ears are yummier than others.

Yeuch. Ear mites are horrible...our dog (the little black thing, not the monster pup) really suffers with them and it seems to be impossible to get rid of them long term.

Poor dear! Harold (who thinks she's pretty) sends headbutts.

I've had cats who've had terrible problems with ear mites. The hard bit is, of course, that their normal earwax is a bit dark too, so it's sometimes hard to tell in the early stages.

Has the vet said anything about swabbing her ears with mineral oil? I'm told it pretty well suffocates the mites and has the effect of loosening the debris.

She had her ears cleaned at the vet and we have Revolution (a broad spectrum anti-parasite) for all three cats so that should do the trick.
