[livejournal.com profile] fromtheid was in town on business and we haven't seen him for far too long so we did stuff. We went for a mooch around Chinatown and the Kensington Market with a quick look at some of downtown's more interesting buildings; old and new city hall, Osgoode Hall, Canada Life building etc. Then lunch at Traditional Chinese Buns; crab and pork dumplings, Tianjin style buns, boars ears in spicy sauce, jellied beancurd with coriander and spicy mutton shashlik, yum! We walked back on a continuation of the architectural tour of downtown. OCAD, Roy Thomson Hall and the St. Andrews condo building, The Goethe Institute, 1 King West and so to C'est What where we parked ourselves in front of the wood stove for beer. Durham Black Katt and Hop Addict, C'est What Rye Beer, Granite Best Bitter and somebody's Winter Ale are the ones I remember.

We came back to the bearandlemurpad to look at art and play with kitties. The bengals were very snuggly but Jane hid under the bed. She came out for several cautious looks and retreats before she plucked up the courage to sniff [livejournal.com profile] fromtheid. I can only put this down to the fact that he does look a bit like a troll in search of a bridge and Janey is sensitive about these things. All in all much fun was had.

The troll thing...

Was it the wart in the center of my nose that tipped you off?

I agree with the bear, very much fun was had. I walked away from their lovely apratment nearly in tears that I couldn't stay and play for a week.

Of course, having to entertain the troll for a week might have been rather a burden, since all i could think of was, let's stop there, and let's stop there, and let's stop there. But where we stopped was actually the right places to stop and I had lovely buns and ears and beer.

Then cats. Those of you unfortunate souls who have not met these little bundles of fur are missing out. They are very sweet (though not holdable except by Mom and Dad), very affectionate, and Lady Jane was certainly not being rude by being cautious. I know I'd have wondered who the 1/8th-ton lumbering thing was if he'd invaded my home...

I love you guys both very dearly, and the next visit can't come soon enough. If I can't do Burning Man this year, I will definitely do it the next, I think it is time I did some sort of community art thing, and BM seems like it fits in my soul at the moment.
