The Mahabharata

I posted a while ago and got invaluable advice from rparvaaz on which edition of The Mahabharata to buy. I settled on ordering the Rupa Editions hardback of the Menon translation/rendering from India via abebooks.com. The actual merchant was Manohar Book Service in New Delhi.

The books arrived today. It took about two weeks and the books were very well packed. The two, large, nicely produced, hardbacks cost me C$50 including packaging which is much less than the soft cover edition costs here, Seems like a good deal to me!

I really don't understand the market for that kind of stuff. If I'm a collector I want the real thing, if I'm a reenactor I don't need live fire. Puzzled.

I think that part of it is that getting a collector's license is about as easy as it would be for you or I to get pregnant, and some people just aren't quite all that purist..:)
