I've just had much fun listening to a very good radio (BBC) adaptation of Stella Gibbons' Cold Comfort Farm. Much as I enjoyed the recent film adaptation, radio is much better for bringing out the literary parody elements. I also liked the 'promised' sequel in which, inter alia, Erk and the Beetle family jazz band win the Eurovision song contest with My Liddle Watervole.

I agree, it's much better. That and the fact that with radio, much like with a book, you get to use your imagination about people's looks and facial expressions.

I still miss Radio 4, there seems to be nothing like it anywhere else. I am very grateful for their listen again sections.

I listened to that when it was on in Early March. Hilarious!

Is that the one with Patricia Gallimore as Flora? We had it on cassette when I was in my teens, and it enlivened many a family car journey after we'd learnt Hitch-Hiker and Lord of the Rings by heart. Or have they done a new one?
