Staying with rugby

It took me a few weeks to process the news that i wasn't going to play rugby again and start to think about how, if at all, I was going to stay with the game. What I've decided is that I'm going to give coaching a try. As of next week I'll be helping to coach the Nomads under 14 and under 16 sides. It's an interesting challenge!

This sounds like an excellent plan, and I hope you enjoy it. But perhaps you could move sideways into cricket coaching, and take charge of England next time round?

The new chap doesn't seem to be doing too badly. I confess though I don't understand why everyone is talking about dropping a batsman to make room for Flintoff as soon as he can walk. There seems to be some sort of collective delusion that Flintoff is a test batsman rather than a very good fast bowler who occasionally gets a few runs.

That seems like a very good choice - I know how unhappy losing all contact with the game would make you, and with this age-group you won't be teaching elementary rules but helping them to refine skills and strategies. I hope you enjoy it very much!

This is an excellent idea. It's always nice to be able to put something back into an activity that you've enjoyed over the years, and it will keep you in touch with rugby people.
