Juniors clinic
May. 27th, 2007 04:12 pmWe had our annual juniors clinic this afternoon. There were about 70 kids aged between 12 and 17; mostly boys but maybe a dozen girls. The rain held off long enough (it's chucking it down now). We had pretty much our full senior and junior coaching staff out including our new player coach, Aaron Cowie, a Maori who has played professionally in Scotland and Italy. We played some fun ball handling games and spent an hour or so running skills drills. Almost all the kids seemed to have a good time and the parents who showed up seemed impressed. All in all, a good afternoon.
Next week we start with the U16s. I think I'll be coaching the backs which will be something of a challenge but I've tapped AC for back specific stuff (he's a centre) so I should be OK. The first competitive game is June 16 so we need to get cracking.
Yesterday all three senior men's team won their season openers with the firsts recording an impressive 31-0 win over Saracens. The women, alas, didn't do so well.
