Weekend update

Attended melted_snowball's Freedom from Indentured Servitude Party. Fun people, good cheese and very good selection of beers. Plus, I got to talk to a ring theorist. This happens too seldom. Quote of the day; lemur_catta, on being introduced to ring theorist, "I've seen the opera".

Much advanced cooking for next Saturday's soiree completed.

Investigation of blown out bike tyre put it well in the 'beyond repair' category. Both tyres were well past their sell by date so I replaced both tyres and inner tubes. The trip to MEC was also an excuse to replace my hiking boots which have mysteriously disappeared. As usual, lemur_catta was a bit surprised that I chose a fairly substantial boot rather than a lightweight day hiker. She takes a highly minimalist approach to footwear. I have endured too many highland screes and Northunbrian bogs to feel the same way. Plus my ankles are shot and ankle support is a must.

I rather enjoyed working on the bike. I don't do a lot of hands on stuff but I'm not totally pants at it. I would have made a pretty decent fitter or electrician though I'd ne hopeless at anything that requires actually making things with precision such as cabinet making or die making.

I'm really pleased you both came. (I have friended your beloved...) And my parents spoke highly of you.

The ring theorist in question was very surprised when, despite my math undergrad, I promised her there was no chance at all that I'd understand her work.
