Nuit Blank
Sep. 30th, 2007 08:23 amLast night the lemur and I ventured out to Nuit Blanche, Toronto's all night arts festival. We started off with burgers at
metalana's then headed down in the general direction of Bloor Street. St. Thomas' Church had a sort of art installation and some decent musical performances but kinda sorta freaked me out because it was the kind of Anglican church that would have the Elizabethan martyrs gyrating in their crypts if, indeed, ashes can do that. Only the relative lack of scruffiness and vulgarity saved it from being entirely Catholic. To be honest it was rather beautiful but it triggers a sort of latent Protestantism that had the lemur referring to me as Lord Whiteadder.
From there we braved the hordes further East to see the totally lame exhibit at the Bata Shoe Museum. From there it just became more people and even less art. University Avenue was wall to wall people but no art so, by now a bit pissed off, we headed to the Kensington Market. That was the highlight of the evening. We watched Mr. Punch bash Stephen Harper over the head repeatedly while singing "Alberta Bound". Honestly, that was as good as it got. We also checked out Trinity Bellwoods but that was a complete bust so we headed home before midnight.
It's a great idea but the execution sucks.
