From 1066 And All That of course. Edward I hammering the Scots. Used mainly for posts about Scotland, made up words etc.
Random Soviet propaganda poster used for 'leftish' posts.
This is from my copy of The Dream Song of Olaf Åsteson. I use it for "pissed off posts". There's more information on the book (and several others) here.
This a wood cut from my most precious book. It's Gide's Thesée with woodcuts by Abram Krol. Again, more details here.
"Colonel Widmerpool Somewhere in England". Cover illustration by Mark Boxer for Anthony Powell's The Military Philosophers. Used for military posts, Britpickery and general pedantry.
The lovely Isabel Bayrakdarian as Cleopatra. Used for music posts, especially opera.
Weak pun. It's a 'doh' nut. It's illustrating the concept of stable and unstable equilibria in spacetime. I use it for physics posts.
