Bring on the Easter Bunny

I'm as disturbed as the next sane person by the murder of Mrs. Bhutto. That said, one has to say that, on the lighter side, these sort of events bring out the most extraordinarily fatuous statements from politicians. This BBC article is full of them. I think the booby prize goes to Mr Nick Clegg of the Liberal Dumbocrats who is quoted as saying "This is a dark day for everyone who believed in a stable and democratic future for Pakistan". It's probably also a dark day for people who believe in the Easter Bunny.

Wow. That is a dumb quote. Why not just say, "this is a dark day for anyone who believed Pakistan might improve." That seems much more apt.

I'm afraid my auto-pedantry kicks in to point out that she was not Mrs Bhutto, but Miss Bhutto, her husband being one Asif Ali Zardari. I'm not sure why this should matter to my brain, when I cheerfully accept Miss, Ms and Mrs for myself (on the grounds that Mrs was standard address for women of my age whether married or not until at least the seventeenth century).
