Snowshoeing
Jan. 5th, 2008 10:00 amI went snowshoeing yesterday with Kate. I've never snowshoed before and I rather liked it. It's a pretty good workout and, although one can't cover as much ground as on skis, it is much easier to get around awkward ground or narrow trails. I was going to ski but it's been a couple of years since I last did (so different from 20 years ago when I skied three or four times/week from Christmas to Easter) and I didn't want to aggravate any of the not quite healed injuries that skiing could easily have put a real strain on. I think there may be snowshoes in my future.

Snowshoeing burns more calories per hour than almost any other activity. If you're going over undulating terrain at a decent clip, you can burn 400-500 cal/hour.
It's really, really, my favorite outdoor activity after canoeing. My housemate informed me we had snow on the ground before I left MN for IN. But as I was driving back, the temps here got up above 50deg/F. So, no snow... *sad*
