Date: 2008-04-28 07:51 pm (UTC)Yup, you hardliners STILL believe in the revolution. Thank gawd I don't think it will ever happen, otherwise I'd be quite miffed.
Are you even ever so slightly religiously observant?
Not really - I was brought up in an atheist household with various atavistic memories of four, count 'em, 4, main religious traditions (RC, Protestant, Jewish, Russian Orthodox); and the only religion I am actually decently familiar with is a fifth, CofE (because Chapel every morning at school.) Add to this that my Socialist father said I had to read the Bible (and Greek Mythology) because otherwise I wouldn't know my way around a museum, and you can see the whole thing took a fairly touristic bent. I know Mass in Latin because of all those Requiems; and every other year or so I accept an invitation to Passover Seder where I'm NEVER happy - either it's traditional, and after TWO HOURS I want FOOD, or it's Reform and I find the vague nods towards the Egyptian desert while wolfing down glazed ham are slightly flippant. I also like Russian Easter egg hunts. I'd say the most transcendence I've ever felt was in museums or at the concert/opera (and when hearing For Those In Peril On The Sea), so me Dad should be reasonably proud of how it all panned out.
... and my default userpic is this one, is it the one you meant?

Date: 2008-04-28 07:56 pm (UTC)I'm not sure I do. Actually I think it already happened and the securocrats and their political lackies won - everywhere. I've never been that keen on shooting people either.
I once asked my rugby buddy Mehdi Mohammed if he was a Muslim. His reply was "I gues so" but as he had a pint in one hand and a bacon sandwih in the other I was a bit skeptical.
Yup

Date: 2008-04-28 08:43 pm (UTC)Every year at the Passover Seder someone said 'Why don't we just record ourselves reading this and, next time, we can listen to it while we eat?'
I liked going to Midnight Mass at the Russian Orthodox cathedral because it was full of shiny things,we got to hold our own candles, the men's choir shook the whole building, the priests had amazing beards and I got to see a guy's hair catch fire.
I know Roman Catholicism also involves a lot of candles because my grandmother's room was full of those big novena things and, know some of the Latin mass because I sang with a chamber choir.

Date: 2008-04-28 08:29 pm (UTC)-- some actual English, fairly fluent German, a smattering of French (I can understand it, but have trouble putting it back together except for simple sentences with academic vocabulary!), enough Spanish to get food and a place to stay. I read better than I speak :-)
