Padmini - terror kitten

Pad decided to stage a yowlathon last night as well as just tearing around generally increasing entropy. This did not sit well with a very tired and grumpy lemur_catta. Eventually I went and slept on the couch in the hope that Pad would come and share the couch with me and quieten down a bit. I snuck back to bed around 4am and got a bit of peace until Pad started up again. I am now up and lemur_catta has shut the cats out of the bedroom. Padmini is yowling again!

Our kittens are only just discovering 'talking' but I think that they are going to be talkative when they grow up. Do Bengals have the same yowl as Siamese et al? If so - ouch!

Bengals are very vocal with quite a wide vocabulary. Pad doesn't really yowl so much anymore (she did before she was fixed) but she makes a loud, high pitched, repeated miaow when she is unhappy. The neatest Bengal noise is when they are hunting. Its a sort of excited clicking sound.

Bengals generally don't have that typical Siamese whine. They have rather strong deep voices with a slightly raspy wild cat quality. Our Bengals aren't very yowly on a regular basis but they have a wonderful range of short chirpy sounds and soft but insistent meows. They have very pleasant voices as cats of my acquintance go. As chickenfeet2003 mentioned, their array of 'hunting' sounds is the most distinctive feature of Bengal chat. It ranges from the typical 'whacka whacka' described the Kliban cat cartoons to something alarmingly like a small plane buzzing a ground target with accompanying machine gun fire. Very fierce ;)
