Seen hither and yon:

What has surprised you the most about me (if anything) since beginning to read my lj? Was anything completely unexpected or have I always fit the picture of me you have in your head?

Post this in your own journal (NB if you like, no obligation) and see how you have surprised people.

actually, I think that it was your recent post-burning man post that surprised me the most. It seemed too pop culture for you. :)

Even I like to party sometimes!

There's a funny mix of passion and (almost) sterility to your thinking. I'm never sure if it's because the things that you present largely emotionlessly are the ones you're most exercised about.

'sterility' as in lack of ideas?

No, more as in there are some things that are obviously very important that you report dispassionately.

That's pretty much a core value for me. I try not to let emotion cloud my thinkking about solutions though, obviously, it provides the drive for change. I find it quite disturbing when people use passion as an excuse to let logic, facts and reason fly out of the door. I've got used to people with the attitude "how dare you point out that my logic sucks and my facts are wrong because I take this issue personally`but it`s not an attitude I can respect. Apart from anything else, it reduces one`s ability to make the changes one feels passionate about happen.

Right--I try to do that as well. It's interesting, though, seeing those slots where your force of emotion shines through, versus doesn't. (A very basic example might be the post from last week about fitness, but that's comparatively minor.)

The thing that surprised me the most was finding out that you had children.

It surprises me sometimes

I was surprised about the Burning Man thing, too. It seemed so totally not your kind of scene :)

Yes, definitely more a lemur thing than my normal scene but It's a fun thing to do occasionally

I was surprised you don't live in New Zealand, being the world's biggest rugbyhead and all..

It surprises me sometimes too. In the last analysis it`s too small, too remote and has too many sheep for me. I do have a NZ Permanent Resident visa in one of my expired passports though.

You seem so much more serious in meatspace than on LJ.

That doesn`t surprise me. There are things I don`t talk about on LJ and they are typically things tghat are deeply personal and somewhat `dark`.

Of everyone I've met on LJ you are the one I have least of a picture of. I of course now know what you physically look like but even that hasn't helped. You come across to me as quite a paradox, which I like and find interesting, but it does mean that not a lot you do/say actually surprises me. If that makes any sense or is of any use, which I suspect it doesn't. And isn't.

Actually it makes perfect sense. In fact people say similar things all the time.

You still don't look like what I imagine (I always think of you with glasses). But I think the most surprising thing (and that's saying a lot!) was hearing your voice.
