chickenfeet: (thesee)
[personal profile] chickenfeet
I'm home with a nasty cold and need entertainment so what better than a game of Literary Botticelli. The rules are here.

My name begins with D

I am fictional, male, married, not human but could reasonably be considered English and was created before 1800.

It would be a stretch to describe the work I appear in as a novel.

I am not Humpty Dumpty or related to eggs in any way.

In most ways I appear to be human. In one important one I do not.

I do not have a tail.

I am not Dylan or Delnabo.

Clues added

My home also starts with D

I appear in a work that was once immensely popular but probably isn't much read anymore

We have a winner

[livejournal.com profile] valkyriekaren correctly deduced that I am the giant Despair from Pilgrim's Progress.

I think ADM's follow up probably rules out your choice. Have another try

Were you created before 1800?

(and I had a different orphan in mind, but thanks for the free answer!)

But was your orphan married? If not, then s/he would no longer be fair game.

Eventually--not at the beginning. And thought you told us at the beginning that it's a male?

But I get an answer to one of my questions! So I'd prefer the second: were you created before 1800?

I was... see above

I am male. So I get to try and guess who your orphan was... I can't.

So, I will answer your question. I was created before 1800.

Thanks! I was thinking of David Copperfield--but I read the rules and discovered it had to be last or only name, not first name.. Now I suspect we're looking for characters in poems or plays, not 19th century novels. But we shall see what others turn up!

Dang it, that immediately shoots down my theory.
