Her husband was a significant figure in the BtF events(? as eny fule no? I knew this before the TV programme about DdM which featured interminable shots of her gazing at the wild waves or her typewriter, though at least included her and Gertrude Lawrence being sapphic)

Correct. Her husband was Lt/Gen Boy Browning who commanded First Airborne Corps during Market Garden. In almost the last line of the film he is shown saying"I told monty that it might be a bridge too far".
