Despite my life membership in the Bah Humbug! Society™ (comes free with my membership of the aging curmudgeon club) I have given in and put a record of seasonal music on tonight. OK so its Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band not some sappy commercial ordure but its a pretty big concession nonetheless. I'm also pretty much committed to doing the singalong Messiah at Massey Hall on the 21st. This is really scary as typically only about four tenors turn up (vs 200 sopranos, 50 altos and maybe 60 baritones). I'm tempted to fake it but i really can't do baritone.

Bloody hell.

I don't consider myself Scrouge-ish at all, but I insist that Christmas is banned from the house until the 10th, and I will NEVER voluntarily play any festive music of any kind.

Perhaps I am a Grinch afterall. :)

In which case, feel better about your festivity. :)

I know the tenor part to a few choruses of the Messiah... though it's been a few years and I am fairly amateur. I'm used to being outnumbered (the fate of all tenors). Do they usually do 'highlights' only, or the whole darn thing? I love Massey Hall so I'm tempted to stay in town long enough for this.

Its the whole thing. They have professional soloists and Tafelmusik. Only the chorus is the plebs!

Alright, I've ordered a ticket. I'll try and recruit a few choir friends.

Found my scores for 3 very famous choruses, and I can almost do them blind. Might get around to buying/reading the rest of the score in advance.

Is the tenor section really that small? or should we arrange to meet up in advance, so I know who you are in real life?

It isn't actually the whole thing. They let you know what the cuts are going to be at the beginning.
