Neighbour from Hell
Aug. 11th, 2011 08:37 amLast night I was up in Raglan, Ontario to referee a game between the Oshawa U18 girls and Peterborough. Vikings Rugby Park, where Oshawa play, is converted from a disused elementary school of the two classrooms and a playing field sort that used to be common in rural Ontario and, back about ten years ago when the Vikings bought the place, Raglan was very rural indeed. Now, inevitably, it's been overtaken by suburbia and is surrounded by rather large houses. At one end of the field the neighbouring house is owned by a complete dickwad. Despite moving into a house that borders on a rugby field he seems to be deeply offended by the fact that occasionally a ball ends up on his property and both refuses to let anyone fetch the ball or even to return them himself (nb at the other end of the ground there is a gate to the neighbouring property for just that purpose). Apparently every so often he ha has a bonfire of rugby balls! Oshawa's response is that they keep a couple of old practice balls at that end of the pitch for conversion kicks so that there is no risk of losing the game ball. Sheesh!
