1) Red Dwarf - was very funny.
2)Black pudding - made of congealed blood. May be very nutrition and saves the blood from being wasted, but it's still icky.
3) Werewolves - you always seem so logical.
4) Boethius - what is it?
5)Knitting. It's basically just applied maths.

Marcus Anlius Boethius; late Roman statesman and philosopher. His The Consolation of Philosophy was one of the most read and translated books in the middle ages in Europe. It was written while he was in prison awaiting execution for treason.

Cheers :) I suppose you would need something to console you if you were awaiting execution.

1 Thing I like & Why

-->HIKING<-- I love hiking. Being in the woods, the air, the sun makes me feel like I'm doing what humans are supposed to do-- live with nature, not pave over it. It's the only exercise I really get. And I love the sound my feet make on needles, leaves, snow. It's a good escape.

Oh. I also love seafood. SEAFOOD ROCKS!!!! Especially shellfish. I heart crustaceans.

1 Thing I don't like & Why

Frog bashing sounds dreadful. Poor little froggies!
All the math stuff is kind of scary, too. My poor little brain!

1 Thing surprises & why

Malaysian food. YUM! I always get excited when people mention Malaysia/Indonesia, since that was my focus of study for a year.

1 Thing don't understand

Sheesh, mr. intellectual. There's a hell of a lot. How can I pick just one? I choose "stochastic processes", but don't bother explaining 'cuz I still won't understand. Howabout "troma team"?

1 Think not on that should be

BODY PAINTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
'cuz it's the coolest transient ecological art there is.
Sexy & fun, too. :)

troma team - silly people who made movies like 'Toxic Avenger', 'Cannibal, the Musical' and 'Vampire Vixens from Venus'.

1. Just about all of it...

2. except I don't like Sparta, or spanking. (Or frog bashing though maybe it means anti-French sentiment???)

3. Curious about Sparta though not spanking.

4. Who is Jenny Agutter? And though the name sounds familiar, Burning Man?

5. Maybe one or two Japanese filmmakers should be up there.

2. (Or frog bashing though maybe it means anti-French sentiment???)

that's the idea

3. Curious about Sparta though not spanking.

I think Sparta is interesting. I need to know more. The ancient sources are not especially forthcoming and I am sure that the commonly received ideas have way too much Victorian public school ethic in them.

4. Who is Jenny Agutter? And though the name sounds familiar, Burning Man?

Jenny Agutter - actress - "Walkabout", "Logan's Run", "American Werewolf in London", "Equus" etc.

Burning Man - very odd festival in the Nevada desert that I attended in 2002 and will go back to one day. Its not often in one's lifetime that one gets to do Balinese monkey chant naked at 3am.

5. Maybe one or two Japanese filmmakers should be up there.

Perhaps they should.

OK, Frog Bashing is cool. They need a little now and then.

Did you see the public television program about Sparta a while ago? Maybe a year ago. It did do something to correct those "public school" impressions of Sparta in my head, though it still sounds like a horrendous culture IMO, but--the commentator made the point that it was really very much like a culture of predators where the top predators have a pretty good life. The key is to get to the top. If you could live through the first twenty-five years of your life, you were abundantly protected, ate meat every day, lived in a society of equals, apparently very healthy (Spartans who made it to adulthood lived a lot longer than Athenians, and in better shape), and had no real worries. That is, so long as you subscribed to the system. I did find that interesting, to be sure. Maybe it was something like a human wolf pack, for real (I like wolves) and worthy of some admiration if one could stand to get over the lovey peacey gee-I-hope-the-electricity-don't-run-out perspective that I know I am so infected with.

Thanks for the new info, about Burning Man especially. The name sounded familiar but I did not know what it was.

I didn't see the TV programme but I think Paul Cartledge was involved. I have one of his books on order. I don't think I would have liked Sparta very much but it does intrigue me. It had a huge influence on Plato of course.
