chickenfeet: (bull)
According to the former commissioner of the Metropolitan Police writing in the ever reliable News of the World as reported by the (also ever reliable) BBC., there are 200 AL Qaeda militants roaming the streets of the UK plotting fiendish deeds. What I want to know is, if the police have evidence enough to allow a (hopefully) responsible senior police person to make such claims, why have no arrests been made or charges laid? Can we expect faked up telegrams from a bunker in Afghanistan in the run up to the election, 1924 style?

I wonder...

chickenfeet: (rugby)
CBC Geoff has sent out the summonses for the first rugby game of the season in two weeks time. Looking at the snow on the ground and in the forecast I have my doubts. If we do play I will be masquerading as Irish in a team that will probably be about as Irish as the Foreign Legion. Still I am making efforts to get fit just in case. Today's effort featured 45 floors worth of stairs, 40 push ups and 100 sit ups. I've also joined the lemur on her low-carb routine for a while to see if I can shed a few pounds.

Talking of the Foreign Legion I'm reading a rather good history of it (up to the loss of Algeria). It's rather ironic that before during and after WW2 the French (including but not only the FL) were committing atrocities in North Africa and Indo-China on a scale that the Germans (the ones actually fighting for Germany!) never got close to in France but for which the French were more than ready to execute fairly large numbers of Germans as war criminals.
