The suit and tie

Time was, not so long ago, when pretty much any kind of office job, for a male, involved wearing a suit and tie.  I used to own a closet full of suits.  Now I don't think I have a single one that still fits me.  So why do politicians still wear them all the time, even when it's patently absurd.  I say this as Toronto slowly drags itself out of the Christmas blackout.  Mayor Bumblefuck and his equally useless deputy have been spectacularly ineffective (absent most of the time) during this emergency but when they have dragged themselves out to the worst affected area they've been wearing suiys and ties!  Suits and ties in sub zero temperatures in areas where the power has been out for days.  Do they think it makes them look more effective?  Sorry, don't get it.
