I thought the 100 things I like meme via
itchyfidget might help with the down-in-the-dumps feeling.
Make a list of 100 things you like in no particular order. Avoid the obvious (significant other, cake...) and be completely honest with yourself. If you try to think of things that you are curious about and inspired by, you'll end up discovering a lot about yourself and in doing so developing a sort of bank of your interests and ideas.
1. Test Match Special
2. Cheesy horror movies
3. Stinky cheese
4. West Penwith, especially outside the tourist season
5. Small lakes on the Canadian Shield
6. Totally manic kittens
7. Beautifully produced books; so much more than just something to read
8. Northumberland
9. Durham Cathedral
10, The river buses in Bangkok
11. Anglican choral music
12. Swimming in the ocean especially if the surf is up
13. Cryptic crosswords
14. Stupid TV shows about armoured vehicles. I have a tank fetish.
15. Fountain pens
16. Jenny Agutter (pant, pant)
17. Fried rice, probably my ultimate comfort food
18. BBC Radio dramatisations, my preferred listening when driving.
19. A bengal pawing to get under the duvet on a cold night
20. Being far enough from the city to see shooting stars (it never gets dark here)
21. Autumn gales
22. Doing really silly things like walking around Seattle in rubber chicken feet
23. Flirtations
24. Thinking about he nature of "intelligence"
25. That first cup of coffee in the morning
26. Coming off a rugby field, utterly exhausted, knowing I've just played the best game I can
27. Interesting old libraries like the one at Llanhydrock
28. Finally grasping a concept that had been eluding me
29. Discovering new music
30. People who appreciate my cooking
31. Michael Vaughan's cover drive
32. Thai street food
33. Kittens on my shoulder
34. English art songs; from Purcell to Walton there is a fantastic tradition of setting English verse. less well known perhap than German Lieder but just as satisfying.
35. Isaac Rosenberg's poetry
36. Proper English breakfasts (Irish ones can be pretty good too)
37. Having a CD player in the car. Such an improvement on tapes.
38. SSRIs, say no more

I've been trying for two days and I can't get past 40. So much for helping with feeling depressed.

Date: 2005-08-05 10:40 pm (UTC)I find that chillis are a good happiness inductor. Although it only lasts for about 30minutes - this can be extended, if you have to go find some ice cream to cool down your mouth, and then a good cup of coffee to warm you up again!
