Once you have been tagged, you have to write a post with 8 facts/things/habits about yourself and say who tagged you. In the end, you will need to choose the 6 people you tag and list their names.
1. I've been injured in more road accidents than most people resulting at various times in a dozen stitches in my face, two bouts of temporary blindness and a fair amount of concussion and shock.
2. At school I was forced to learn a musical instrument. My clarinet teacher once told me he'd write my report as soon as he learned to spell 'pathetic'.
3. I once swam across the river Wear in January.
4. I have spent a week on Ben Nevis in winter and very squalid it was.
5. My first computer was an Osborne 'portable' running CPM. Before that, most of my computing had been done on an IBM mainframe vis punch cards.
6. I still use the loudspeakers that I bought while still at school. FWIW they are Monitor Audio 5s are now the main left and right speakers in my current 6+1 channel set up.
7. I detest telephones, especially mobile ones.
8. I like swimming in the ocean. I particularly like swimming in heavy surf. I have done this in many places that might not be considered wise.

Date: 2006-08-08 07:35 pm (UTC)And was the mainframe that notorious one shared with Newcastle Uni, where the land-line was constantly falling down? Many quite senior computer buffs I know honed their vocabulary of expletives on that machine.

Date: 2006-08-09 10:29 am (UTC)I still use the loudspeakers that I bought while still at school. Me too! Well, nearly - I still use the speakers that I bought in my "gap year". They are floor mounted;I bought stand mounted ones in between - fifteen years ago or so - but last year our cats (or kittens as they then were) took to jumping on them, causing them to fall of the stands... So it was back to the floor based speakers!
I hate getting rid of old hifi: I still have my original amp, cassette deck, and a couple of tuners - though they are heading for the dump...

Date: 2006-08-09 10:41 am (UTC)I was climbing. A bunch of us were staying at the CIC hut. It was quite crowded and very damp and smelly.
I know what you mean but the speakers are now the last remnant of my original setup. Some things had to be replaced when I moved to Canada for voltage reasons and a couple of components eventually died. I still have my stereo amp and record deck in my office so that I can transfer vinyl to CD but otherwise (and barring the two speakers) the current set up dates from 2000 when we bought a large screen TV and went multi-channel.

Date: 2006-08-09 11:42 am (UTC)It's just a matter of taste. There's no substitute for listening to the kind of music you like on speaker candidates before you buy.
