Once you have been tagged, you have to write a post with 8 facts/things/habits about yourself and say who tagged you. In the end, you will need to choose the 6 people you tag and list their names.

1. I've been injured in more road accidents than most people resulting at various times in a dozen stitches in my face, two bouts of temporary blindness and a fair amount of concussion and shock.

2. At school I was forced to learn a musical instrument. My clarinet teacher once told me he'd write my report as soon as he learned to spell 'pathetic'.

3. I once swam across the river Wear in January.

4. I have spent a week on Ben Nevis in winter and very squalid it was.

5. My first computer was an Osborne 'portable' running CPM. Before that, most of my computing had been done on an IBM mainframe vis punch cards.

6. I still use the loudspeakers that I bought while still at school. FWIW they are Monitor Audio 5s are now the main left and right speakers in my current 6+1 channel set up.

7. I detest telephones, especially mobile ones.

8. I like swimming in the ocean. I particularly like swimming in heavy surf. I have done this in many places that might not be considered wise.

Self tagging is enabled.

Why were you up Ben Nevis for a week? In winter?!

I was climbing. A bunch of us were staying at the CIC hut. It was quite crowded and very damp and smelly.

I hate getting rid of old hifi:

I know what you mean but the speakers are now the last remnant of my original setup. Some things had to be replaced when I moved to Canada for voltage reasons and a couple of components eventually died. I still have my stereo amp and record deck in my office so that I can transfer vinyl to CD but otherwise (and barring the two speakers) the current set up dates from 2000 when we bought a large screen TV and went multi-channel.

I think I may need speakers ... mine are good quality, I think, but always seem bass-heavy. How does one tell?

It's just a matter of taste. There's no substitute for listening to the kind of music you like on speaker candidates before you buy.
