chickenfeet: (rugby)

I got my Xray results today, The good news is that nothing is cracked and the discs are OK. The not so good news is that I have spurring and degenerative damage to the C5/6/7 vertebrae and that if I want to keep the use of my left arm rugby is not a terribly good idea.

So I am now, officially, an ex rugby player.

ETA: There's no reason to suppose the neck problem originated with rugby. It may well have been started by my near fatal car crash in 1979 or by many other things. Also, although I'm disappointed and would have liked to play for a few more years, I'll be 50 in a few months so I've had a pretty good run.

Hell. I am very sorry to hear that; I've seen from your posts how much you loved the game and being with the other players. I hope you find another game you love as well that your body can play.

I'm sorry to hear that. Is there some other sport or exercise you could take up that wouldn't threaten your left arm? Though I realise camaraderie is a large part of rugby.

I need to think about it. I guess if I lost 40 pounds I could start climbing again!

Have you considered competitive right handed arm wrestling?

Aowww, aowww, aowww, this sounds painful. Can anything be done about this "spurring and degenerative damage"?

Physio and anti-inflammatories. If it does get worse it's steroid injections and, ultimately, surgery but that should be a long way off yet.

I'm sorry to hear that :(

You have had a bloody good run, IMO. If I'm still doing TKD at 49 I'll be bloody impressed.

Ach, shit.

If you're right handed, you can always take up badminton - I've played some pretty spry 70 year olds...

Buggrit. Very sorry to hear about the loss of your sport. It's brutal, violent and addictive, and it will leave a hole.
